We've brewed a bespoke beer for the Pipe and Glass

Our fabulous brew team have developed a bespoke ale for East Yorkshire’s first and only Michelin starred pub. We were delighted when James and Kate Mackenzie from the Pipe and Glass asked us to work with them to create a house ale. The result is ‘InnSpire’: an intriguing IPA with notes of citrus and floral aromas that give way to a gentle bitterness. We love creating bespoke beer for clients and this project was particularly enjoyable as James and Kate are so passionate about provenance. Taking inspiration for its name from the magnificent landmark of the 200ft spire of St Mary’s Church in South...

Celebrating 50 years of CAMRA

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the real ale organisation ‘CAMRA’ (Campaign for Real Ale).  Founded in 1971 by four real ale enthusiasts who wanted to highlight the monopoly (at that time) held over the UK beer markets by large breweries/corporations and to campaign for more market freedom and routes to market for smaller businesses.  Over the last 50 years, CAMRA has worked hard on behalf of all UK breweries to reintroduce and repopularise the concept of ‘Real Ale’ and what this brings to the UK beer industry. Introducing the third of our Viking inspired beers

Each month in 2021, we are brewing a different Viking inspired beer that is available exclusively online and as part of our monthly bottled and cask beer subscription offer. The third of the limited edition bottlings in the 2021 Vikings series is Thor.  “Thor's deep amber colour is reminiscent of the red hues in the God of Thunder's hair and beard. It’s a delicious balance of biscuity crystal malts and Mystic and Minstrel hops with notes of orange,” says Brewery Manager, Alex Balchin, pictured.  “Our first two Viking beers, Odin and Freyja were very popular, so we’re hopeful that people looking for...

Introducing our first low alcohol beer

We're very excited to introduce you to our first low alcohol beer: Intuition. Intuition (<0.5% vol.) is a hop forward pale that has been brewed in response to consumer demand for no and low alcohol drinks and we're really pleased with it. It’s a flavourful ale with citrussy notes and fruity hits that has been in development for several months. Brewery manager tells us why the development took so long: “Developing Intuition took several months as we experimented with different recipes that fitted our house style of balanced malts and hops, not too bitter and not too sweet, with a good...

Shrove Tuesday recipe inspiration

Against the Grain/Marmalade Porter Pancakes  Thanks to Jamie Thickett for another great beer based recipe... beer batter takes the humble pancake to a whole new level! Using beer is a great alternative liquid to use in a pancake batter. Similar to how it is used in fish and chip batter, it gives a lightness and crispiness to the pancakes. We have experimented with two different Wold Top beers, a light one and a dark one, for you to try this week. Against the Grain will create a light, traditional style pancake, perfect for Shrove Tuesday, whereas Marmalade Porter gives a wonderfully sweet...
