History:Today, the words beer and ale mean much the same, but the word ‘ale’ was originally reserved for brews produced from malt without hops. This was the original drink of the Anglo-Saxons and English, whereas ‘beer’, a brew using hops, probably originated in Germany.The cultivation of hops was probably introduced from Europe to Kent at the end of the 15th century. The team at the brewery are very excited because our first and flagship lager, Landmark, has been shortlisted in the Beer category of the deliciouslyorkshire Taste Awards 2025. The Taste Awards are now the biggest of their kind in the north of England and attract hundreds of entries from food and drink businesses throughout Yorkshire and the Humber, so we're over the moon to have reached the final.
