All about malting

If you don't subscribe to our monthly newsletter*, you will have missed the great article that directors Kate and Alex wrote about the malting process. What is Malting? Summit Strong lives up to its name at Everest Base Camp

Back in April, we were delighted to work with our friends at the Books by the Beach Festival to brew a Festival Beer (as we do every year) that is available at selected venues and is given to all of the performers as a memento of their visit to Scarborough. Every year, there is a competition to name the beer, based on the Festival's theme. It's brewed from home grown barley malt and hopped with Progress and Northdown hops and its darker colouring comes from the addition of chocolate malt. The name is inspired by the first UK recorded meteorite which fell in our neighbouring village, Wold Newton - you can read more about it here http://bit.ly/2yZJQPi. The photo shows how much our branding has evolved...

Harvest time

The Directors' Diary in this month's newsletter is all about harvest and is a fascinating insight into farm life... August is a busy month for us here at Wold Top. Not only do we have an influx of seaside visitors to the Yorkshire Coast who want to drink delicious beer, it’s also harvest time on the farm. The biggest event in the farming calendar.  The word ‘harvest’ comes from the Old English haerf-est which meant ‘autumn’ and/or ‘august’ and signified the period in the calendar when the crops had reached maturity and were ready to be gathered in. The main principles...
