A Yorkshire Coast micro-brewery is celebrating after beating an established brewery to win a coveted food and drink award.
In a David and Goliath style contest, Wold Top Brewery?s Wold Top Bitter?was short-listed against Black Sheep Brewery?s Riggwelter Ale and Yorkshire Square Ale in the drinks category of the fourth annual?Deliciouslyorkshire awards.
Judged by a panel of independent food and drink industry experts including BBC Radio 2?s resident foodie Nigel Barden, the winners of the prestigious awards were announced at a glittering dinner at Rudding Park, Harrogate on 3rd November.
Wold Top Bitter, the Wold Newton brewery?s first and flagship beer was commended by judges for its ?depth of flavour and long hoppy finish? and brewery owner Tom Mellor is naturally delighted; ?This is the ale that launched the brewery back in 2003 and it?s always been my favourite.? It?s a real credit to head brewer Tony O?Rourke-Kilburn and all of the Wold Top team that we have beaten such stiff competition to win thisaward.?
The Deliciouslyorkshire achievement brings Wold Top Brewery?s awards tally to eight and includes accolades for its Wold Gold, Wolds Way, Falling Stone and Wold Top Bitter ales.? They are available to buy as single cases or made up into popular gift packs via the website at?www.woldtopbrewery.co.uk and from retailers, farmers? markets, farm shops, pubs and off licences throughout Yorkshire and North EastLincolnshire.
