Yorkshire brewery enlists help to win national competition

As the final plans are being made for British Food Fortnight (17th September to 2nd October), an East Yorkshire micro-brewery is appealing for people to support its bid to win a national competition.

Wold Newton based Wold Top Brewery is the only Yorkshire brewery to have reached the finals of Sainsburys Great British Beer Hunt with its Golden Summer real ale and will be rewarded with a listing in all Sainsburys stores from 7th to 28th September.

Depending on sales of the light, fruity beer, Golden Summer could go on to win the competition and secure a six month listing from November.

Commenting on the temporary listing, Brewery director Gill Mellor said; "We're really pleased to have put Yorkshire on the brewing map by reaching the final and naturally it would be even better if we could win! It would be great if people could celebrate British Food Fortnight and support small, rural businesses like ours by buying Golden Summer from their local Sainsburys."

The tenth British Food Fortnight will celebrate the diverse and delicious range of food that Britain produces with promotions and tastings in shops, all-British menus in pubs and restaurants, food and cookery lessons in schools and food festivals.
