Staff at an East Yorkshire micro brewery are celebrating after winning Best Green Business at the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) Business Awards (13th-15th March).

The day after winning two bronze medals in the SIBA Brewing Awards, the Wold Newton brewery learnt that its nomination for Best Green Business had been successful and had beaten stiff competition to win the category.

The successful nomination outlined the measures that the brewery is taking to safeguard the environment and included the installation of wind turbines to power the brewery and the farm, recycling the hops as garden mulch, using reed beds to filter waste water and conservation initiatives like the Wold Top Wood.

Gill Mellor, who is responsible for marketing at the brewery, said: "We're very proud to have won this award and are convinced that all of the measures that we take to protect the environment result in better crops and tastier ales."
