A charity auction of farm machinery and implements helped to raise £38,000 for Yorkshire charities and for Flixton and Folkton villages.

Staff at G M Stephenson Ltd of Flixton appealed to local farmers to scour their sheds to see if they had anything to add to the charity auction and asked local businesses and individuals to support the fundraiser by donating goods or services for an auction of promises.

Directors and staff at Wold Top brewery rose to the challenge and ran the bar at cost, Scarborough farm shop, Trotters provided a hog roast and there were lots of donations from local business in every shape and form.

Of the event, that featured evening entertainment from the original Wurzels and the Dave England band, brewery owner Gill Mellor said: "There were six of us behind the bar and it was the busiest bar we've ever worked, but we were proud to be able to help raise vital funds for Candlelighters, St Catherine's Hospice, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Flixton and Folkton villages.

"It was a fantastic, well organised and extremely well run event courtesy of Martin Stephenson and his team and we were delighted to be a part of it."
