An award-winning Yorkshire coast brewery has embarked on a massive charity drive in memory of the son of an employee.

Dan Bayes, son of Wold Top Brewery?s cellarman Geoff, lost his battle to a rare form of aggressive bone cancer, osteosarcoma, in April this year, aged just 25.

Humbled and inspired by the way that the Bayes family, supported by theCandlelighters charity, had coped with Dan?s 13 year illness, brewery owners and staff decided to raise money for the Leeds based charity that is dedicated to combatting childhood cancer and to making the lives of the children and their families more bearable.

The Wold Newton based brewery aims to raise ?10,000 by producing a limited edition ale called Candlelight and by?entering a team of runners that include brewery staff and Dan?s mum, Barbara, to tackle Europe?s biggest half marathon, the Great North Run. There will only be two brews of Candlelight; one available in casks to coincide with the September 20th race and one that will be bottled and available in Christmas gift packs.

Candlelight (4.3% ABV) is an easy drinking straw coloured beer made with

Maris Otter malt & Willamette hops that give the beer a crisp bitterness with a hint of citrus aroma.

Thanks to the generosity of the brewery?s suppliers who have donated time and goods free of charge, all of the proceeds, minus tax and duty, will benefit the charity.? Sally Roydhouse from Market Weighton based?Wicked Poppy Designs has designed the label for the bottles that have been donated by?Croxsons and Hull businesses?Springfield andJustinor will supply labels and gift boxes respectively. ?Shiptonthorpe based?three60 marketing and pr is helping to raise awareness of the campaign.

The beer will be available from pubs and at farmers markets and events from mid September until stocks last. It can be also be pre-ordered from the brewery by calling 01723 892222 for collection at the charity?s home, the Children?s Day Hospital at St James Hospital in Leeds.? The three bottle gift pack costs ?7.75 with all proceeds benefiting the registered charity (no.1045077).
