“I do like to be beside the seaside” - book festival beer naming competition

We are partnering with Books by the Beach again for the annual festival beer naming competition. This year’s book festival dates are Friday 7 -Sunday 9 June and the full programme is available to view www.booksbythebeach.co.uk.

All authors are appearing in-person with book signings at each event. Tickets are on sale at the YMCA box office, St Thomas St, Scarborough or online http://ymcatheatre.uk/books’.

The festival is attracting great headliners including bestselling novelist David Nicholls (author of Netflix hit ‘One Day’), comedian Helen Lederer, BBC’s security correspondent Frank Gardner, national poet Jackie Kay and BBC’s Great British Sewing Bee judge Patrick Grant. And much, much more …

Saturday 8 June opens at 10.30am with marine biologist Dr Helen Scales talking about her new book What the Wild Sea Can Be. During this fascinating talk Helen will explain the ocean’s deep history and what lessons we can learn about conservation. She will also be discussing how climate change is affecting the habitats of sea animals from emperor penguins to sharks and orcas. Despite the numerous threats to our oceans Helen remains hopeful and will be offering ideas for protecting coastlines and cleaning toxic seas. There is so much to discover from Helen’s talk and tickets for this event will be offered as part of the beer naming competition prize.

The theme for this year’s festival beer naming competition is ‘ I do like to be beside the seaside…’. So thinking caps on everyone, and send in your entries to Heather French the festival director at heather@booksbythebeach.co.uk

The lucky winner will receive a presentation pack of Wold Top beers and 4 complimentary tickets to see Dr Helen Scales at Queen Street Church on Saturday 8 June at 10.30am. Before entering the competition please ensure you are available to attend Helen Scales’ event to collect your prize.

Competition closing date is Friday 24 May. Only one entry per person is permitted. Good luck and the judges’ decision is final.
