Stellar pairing for artisanal beer and cheese evening

Three award winning Yorkshire businesses are collaborating to host an autumnal beer and cheese pairing evening.

On 20th November, the Yorkshire Wolds Cookery School at Southburn, near Driffield will host a unique gastro event and sampling evening with an Artisanal Beer and Cheese Pairing.

Following on from the successful summer beer and cheese pairing event, the Cookery School's resident chef Ali Bilton will create a new seasonal tasting menu that combines cheese from Thirsk's Shepherd's Purse with locally sourced ingredients that will be served with complementary beers from Wold Newton based microbrewery, Wold Top Brewery.

Ali Bilton will use the demonstration area at the Cookery School to show the audience how to make canapà © style treats like Shepherds Watch, Givendale Prime and Yorkshire Ryedale Pie and Yorkshire pea and Yorkshire Fine Fettle fritters and will be using winter beer Shepherd's Watch and sweet, malty Headland Red beer as both an ingredient and an accompaniment. Guests will have the opportunity to sample the dishes and the matching beers throughout the demonstration and buy cheese and beer afterwards. Gill Mellor from Wold Top Brewery and Shepherd's Purse founder Judy Bell will talk through the pairings.

Shepherd's Purse Bluemin White and Wold Top Brewery's Wold Gold won the coveted 3 star Gold at the Great Taste Awards 2013 and both will feature in the recipes for the evening.

Gill Mellor is looking forward to participating in the event "It's a great opportunity for people to enjoy great Yorkshire produce and to learn how beer can complement food in the same way that wine does. It promises to be a fun, informative and tasty evening in a very relaxed environment."
