We're delighted to report that the Wold Top Warriors team of oarsmen stormed into first place when they competed in the Rotary Club of Scarborough Cavaliers’ dragon boat race at Wykeham Lakes recently.
The sixteen-strong team, comprising staff, family and friends of the brewery, was one of 26 teams entering the races that took place on Sunday June 11.
Teams were divided into the gold and silver races according to their results in the first two qualifying races and the Wold Top Warriors won the gold final.
Alex Balchin, brewery manager and dragon boat team member, said: “We had quite a bright and breezy day out on the lake, and it was great to have support from hundreds of spectators.
“This is our second year of taking part in this event, and it’s always well organised and great fun, so we’re pleased to participate and raise money for both Rotary charities and for Kidney Research UK, the brewery’s charity of the year.
“For anyone who’d like to support Kidney Research UK and the other Rotary nominated charities, there is still time to donate through our Virgin Money Giving page online.”
Hot on the heels of the Wold Top Warriors were the Barons Health and Fitness, Scarborough Rowing Club and Fashionable Fitness teams who took second, third and fourth places in the gold division respectively.
The dragon boat race is one of the Rotary Club of Scarborough Cavaliers’ major fundraisers.
Kidney Research UK is the national leading not-for-profit organisation dedicated to research into better treatments and a cure for kidney disease, and supports those living with and affected by the disease. It also works to raise public awareness of the disease to help save lives.
