Enthusiastic cyclists will be venturing back out into the Wolds thanks to the work of organisers and sponsors, including Wold Top Brewery, who have come together to host the Wolds 123 sportive for the third year running.

Riders on the Wolds 123 will have the chance to take in the best of the Wolds when the non-timed 123km event returns on Sunday, July 3.

Participants will have the option to cycle the entire distance of the main route or can shorten it by missing either a 25km loop or a 13 km loop along the way. The route takes in a number of climbs and the total elevation is 1,475 metres.

Gill Mellor, director at Wold Top Brewery, is proud to be supporting the Wolds 123 for the third year running: “We’ve got some staff members from the brewery taking part, as in previous years and it’s a great route, dotted with marvellous sights on the way. It’s certainly a challenging route so I think everyone will be glad to have a pint of Hello Velo at the finish line.”

The organisers, David Hought and Richard Baldwin, who manage the Wold Top Actif Road Racing Team, the highest ranked team in Yorkshire, have designed the route to pass some iconic points in interest in the area.

Of the sportive, David said: “There are some fantastic hill climbs and valleys such as Thixendale, and the ride passes through historic landmarks like Castle Howard.

“It’s great to have Wold Top Brewery on board, showing their continuing support for cycling, and helping us showcase the Yorkshire Wolds and all it has to offer – both in scenery and local produce.”

Registration takes place between 8am and 9am at the KP Club, where the ride will commence at 9.30am. Riders will be staggered to set off in small groups.

KerbEdge, a street food truck, will be on hand to refuel riders at Castle Howard with further refreshments available at the top of Thrussendale. All participants will be able to tuck into a meal and a sample of Wold Top Brewery’s Hello Velo beer on their return to The KP Club.

As the event coincides with stage 2 of the Tour de France, there will be the opportunity to follow the day’s cycling action which will be screened at the venue.

David said the Wold Top Actif Road Racing team, also sponsored by Wold Top Brewery along with Oriel Printing and Vehicle Livery Solutions, will be riding the route to help marshal on the day.

Entries are now open online at a cost of £35 and all riders under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult during the event.
