Don't miss the Books by the Beach festival

Heathcliff Hop

Here's the latest news from our friends at the Books by the Beach Festival that starts on 13th April..

The Scarborough book festival lead up has been busier than ever. Heather French, director of Books by the Beach and Gill Mellor, director of Wold Top Brewery had great fun judging this year's festival beer naming competition. It was Bronte themed to tie in with the start of the famous Haworth family celebrations. There was a wealth of literary links including 'Bramwell's Brew' and 'Rochester's Ruin' but after long deliberation the winner was agreed upon.

SO ....the 2016 winning festival ale is ' HEATHCLIFF HOP'!

Congratulations go to Glenys Nicholson of Scarborough.

The prize for Glenys is a special pack of her own named beers, plus two tickets for the Charlotte Bronte event with novelist Tracy Chevalier and biographer Claire Harman. As an additional treat, Glenys will also see Baron Melvyn Bragg at The Spa Theatre.

Glenys is thrilled that a bottle of her special brew will also be given to all visiting authors at the Books by the Beach festival this month (13-17 April). Tickets on sale for all festival events at Stephen Joseph Theatre and online at

There's a wealth of authors and celebrities including Vince Cable, Melvyn Bragg, Joan Bakewell, Joanne Harris, actor Hugh Fraser, Peter James and of course Wold Top ale tasting!

Heather French would like to thank Wold Top Brewery for their fantastic support!
