Here's a press release from our friends at Coastival. We'll be revealing more about our joint collaboration in due course, but in the meantime, have a read about a fantastic sounding concert on February 2014 - perfect for a date afternoon/night!
Local musicians take centre stage for Coastival
A Band Anyone Can Join heads to town
Scarborough musicians will take centre stage when a unique and innovative concert is held as part of the next Coastival event on the coast.
A Band Anyone Can Join will be one of the main attractions during Coastival 2016, from 12th to 14th February.
It will see local musicians join Leeds-based rock band Hope and Social on stage at the Spa Grand Hall for a unique participation concert on 14th February from 2.30pm.
Coastival 2016 will return to the three-day format and have the theme ‘Celebrating the Yorkshire Coast’. Coastival’s organisers, Scarborough-based arts development agency Create, say A Band Anyone Can Join will present something new and special for Coastival fans.
Director Wendy Holroyd said: “Hope and Social want ukulele groups, choirs, brass bands, string groups, drummers, kazoo orchestras...anyone, to come and join them as an ever-expanding band and play a monumental show to close the Coastival celebrations and celebrate the breadth of music on our coastline.
Coastival has created some weird and exciting events before but we are pretty sure there won’t have been anything to match this. It promises to be awesome and we look forward to seeing as many local musicians, from as many different musical styles as possible, up on stage on 14th February!”
Last year Hope & Social performed with 1200 new band members in 12 gigs across Yorkshire as part of their Tour of Infinite Possibility, a lead project of the Yorkshire Festival. They finished that with 200 of their new band members performing at the opening ceremony of The Tour de France at Leeds Arena in front of a live TV audience of 300 million people. Hope and Social specialise in involving their fans and audiences in the music they play and have a Pay What You Want philosophy for anyone downloading their music.

During the rest of Coastival, rock band Cast will headline with a concert at the Spa Grand Hall on the evening of Friday 12th February, supported by Two Skies. Popular saxophonist Snake Davis will play at the Spa during the afternoon of Saturday 13th February, supported by Jazz Aesthetic. Asian Dub Foundation will headline at the Spa on the evening of Saturday 13th February, supported by Project 12.
Tickets for all the concerts, including A Band Anyone Can Join, are on sale now via the Spa box office and Coastival website. As well as individual tickets, two special ticket offers are available, one covering the whole weekend’s music, the other for the Saturday only.
Music will be just a part of Coastival 2016 as it will also feature theatre, dance, fine arts, comedy, performance and activities for children. More details will be released shortly.
