A Yorkshire micro brewery is celebrating after its best selling gluten free beer has been shortlisted for a national award.
Wold Top Against the Grain, brewed by East Yorkshire based Wold Top Brewery, has been shortlisted in the Gluten Free Beer category of the Free From Food Awards.
Commenting on the nomination, brewery owner Gill Mellor said; “We’re really pleased that Wold Top Against the Grain has been recognised by the organisers of the awards as one of the country’s leading gluten free beers. We have done exceptionally well to compete with much larger breweries to reach this point.”
The Free From Food Awards are organised by Foods Matter, the leading on and offline resource for allergen intolerance and sensitivity, and the results will be announced at a presentation and networking party hosted by Anthony Worrall Thompson on 17th April 2012 at the Museum of London in Docklands, London. The Awards will also be showcased at the Allergy & Free From Show at Olympia in May.
Established in 2003, farm based Wold Top Brewery brews a range of traditional real ale from home and Wolds grown malting barley, the finest hops and pure, chalk-filtered Wolds water. It supplies its cask and bottled ales to pubs, off licences, independent retailers, farm shops and delis throughout Yorkshire and further afield. Wold Top Against the Grain is also available in the Friends of the RA bar and in the Restaurant at the Royal Academy for the duration of the Hockney exhibition.
An East Yorkshire micro brewery is celebrating after learning that three of the pubs that it supplies have won first prize in the CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) Hull and East Yorkshire Pubs of the Year competition.
Wold Newton based Wold Top Brewery supplies its award-winning ales to Hull’s Lion and Key, winner of the Hull Pub of the Year 2011, the Rose and Crown at Little Driffield, winner of the East Yorkshire Town Pub and the Goodmanham Arms, winner of the East Yorkshire Country Pub award.
Commenting on the wins, brewery owner Tom Mellor said; “We’re really pleased that the pubs have won these prestigious awards that help to spread the word about how good real ale is. It was also pleasing that we supply beer to two out of the three runners up too!”
Three in a row as Wold Top Brewery takes top industry award
Glasses are being raised today at an East Yorkshire micro brewery, following its triumph in the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) Business Awards this week (14th November).
Just weeks after its success in the Yorkshire Post Taste Awards and the SIBA Great Northern Beer Competition, Wold Newton based Wold Top Brewery has also won the Best Design Concept Award for its contemporary new look labels, pumpclips, gift packs and marketing materials.
Gill Mellor, who is responsible for marketing at the brewery, said: “This is a great result for us. With our creative partner, Carrot Juice, we worked hard on the rebranding and on the nomination for Best Design Concept and it’s fantastic to win public recognition from our peers and industry experts. The past year has been a challenging one for everyone involved in brewing and selling beer, but our new contemporary look has great on and off trade presence and has gone a long way to introducing new beer drinkers to the real ale category. This is the first stage of a rebranding exercise that we plan to roll out to our core beers early next year – so keep an eye on the website for details of the exciting new designs! ”
Julian Grocock, SIBA chief executive, said: “To succeed, small brewers have to do so much more than just brew great beer: marketing, customer service, pack design and community support are all areas in which they have to become experts, and the winners and runners up today have more than risen to this challenge.”
The SIBA Brewing Business Awards, now in their sixth year, celebrate the business development skills and entrepreneurial flair of SIBA’s 500+ members. At the Awards presentation, brewers from across the country were recognised for their achievements in number of categories including customer service, sustainability, e-business and design of bottle labels and pumpclips.
